Sort of. Lots of interesting stories. I really love the ship-based combat but dread the ground-based. It’s my favorite Star Trek game.

I play too, and concur with your assessment.

It’s a little bit of a shame because the ground combat does have some interesting mechanics (expose/exploit, for instance), but it’s just a little too RPG-like and laggy to work well as a first-person shooter.

Pro-tip: prioritize ground speed for your endeavour rewards because the faster you run the quicker you can complete ground daily TFOs.

Prioritizing movespeed is like the secret weapon of most games like this.

      No.

Well, the writing is good. Made by people who care about Trek, and also want to have as much cool fan service as possible.

      But the gameplay…

There’s a lot of jank and mmo monetization, the ground combat is kinda boring, but the rest flying around the universe doing missions feels like show episodes, picking and outfitting ships and space combat was interesting, I though was pretty fun

I still feel like the ground combat was an after thought added to pad the game. I stopped playing it over a year ago and even then it still felt janky

Meh. STO has great writing, but ground missions suck and quite quickly you get smacked with the grind wall.

Oh, and FOMO. So much fucking FOMO it’s exhausting.

STO’s game engine is the same one used by other tps mmos like Champions Online. The spaceship bits are fun, but the away missions are stuck in 2000s mmo land and need a revamp.

I played in the beta (2012??) and even then it felt dated. WoW was right there, absolutely slaying, and all they had to do was copy it… but instead we get something that looks more like Shadowbane (nerd points if you know what that is without googling).

I eventually stopped about a year ago when they brought back Tzenkethi and dropping some kind of protomatter bomb on a borg cube. Were any of the seasons after that worthwhile?

I recently saw a teaser for the newest release featuring Spocks from SNW, TOS & TUC-era talking with each other…
