222·5 months agoi think one factor (though definitely not all) of the dislike is the politics of the project, which are fairly inclusive and kind. some people can’t stomach that. another factor might be that the mere existence of rust implies that a lot of people are not the 100x rockstar developer they might aspire to be. maybe it’s also just a simple change = bad. though i have seen people who dislike rust also gravitate towards zig, and that also has some big differences. maybe it’s a hate towards mozilla? when i talk to people who hate rust they don’t articulate themselves well, so i have to speculate and i get nowhere. one thing i do hear about rust a lot is that it’s ugly, but I don’t really get that. i can’t personally fathom disdaining to use a tool simply because of looks, and i also don’t personally think rust is ugly.
I am appalled at the fact that some people have casual sex with people they don’t intend to marry. That’s insane! But also yeah that’s the infinity of human expression, people are just all kinds of different.

17·6 months agowow these replies are landmines so i will just be confused about how you even get a picture from that angle. the place doesn’t look urban or like it would have any high-rises, and the USA (assuming this is it) also doesn’t really do tall parking garages. and it very much looks like the photo was taken from outside.

2·6 months agoafaik linux players can still play older battlefields, like battlefield 4, which is probably superior to 2042

Linux@lemmy.ml•What's a unique customization on your Linux machine you think no one else has?English
1·1 year agothere are both configurable mice that let you swap mouse buttons (in the worst case in a windows virtualbox with usb passthrough) or mice that are leftie right out the get-go. those would allow you to use wayland, assuming you can afford to and want to get a new mouse.

Linux@lemmy.ml•What are your thoughts on Zen Browser becoming a lot more popular than Floorp?English
1·1 year agowith linux and kde you could create an encrypted kde vault that’s mounted to your librewolf profile folder (and you can change librewolf settings to save history, cache, etc.)
if you don’t want to use kde, it uses cryfs in the background, which has a cli tool as well. unmount the volume after using the browser and profit i guess, though i do agree with the other commenter that this doesn’t make much sense in my head.

Games@sh.itjust.works•Twitch Streamer Asmongold Banned After Racist Rant About Palestinians [Update]English
15·1 year agoIt is actually enough to twitch, as the ban supposedly only lasts 14 days. In my opinion that’s just not enough though. Genocide can never under any circumstances be justified. Every human is the same. I cannot compromise on that. Influencers like him have a responsibility to society equal to their reach and “influence” (and they truly do influence some people), and any vile comment from him is going to get many more followers than a vile comment from you. Even if he believes that genocide can be justified and that a people can be concentrated and murdered for decades and that’s okay, he should never be allowed to say it and get away with that. That’s a permanent infraction.
