In this era, I feel like I’m in the Good Place: it’s impossible to make “good” ethical choices while engaging with modern world. Every day, some platform or artist is found supporting blood money, genocide, unfair labor, treats other artist/collaborators like shit, exploitation… Then we all have to pivot to some obscure alternative with its own issues, lest we be immoral internet users.
I’m so tired of all this shit… /rant

51·10 months agoIt seems like there’s a few threads going on.
I think pulling the openly trans storyline is bad.
I think having the “openly” Christian character is totally fair and reasonable.
We shouldn’t be in the attitude of pushing out character identities, except whole cloth bigots. I’m not a Christian, but having openly Christian characters is fine with me.
I’ll add a caveat that it could even be a good thing if they actually bring up Christ’s words. You know: caring for the poor, giving shelter to aliens, loving your enemies. I think a lot of Christians would benefit by having the words of Christ more present in their lives.

Cybersecurity@sh.itjust.works•Hackers steal $1.5bn from crypto exchange in ‘biggest digital heist ever’English
2·11 months agoI agree that there’s some line, but if we’re really talking about $1.5bn & it really is a theft, it seems reasonable to me. /shrug
It’s probably money laundering anyway, but I dunno. If the blockchain is protected through a decentralized ledger, couldn’t they vote via governance?
Keep in mind, I read the headline & not the article. I got no clue what chain or crypto involves the story. The web3 world gave me a salary boost, and that was enough for me. It was stressful working in a grey area at times.

Cybersecurity@sh.itjust.works•Hackers steal $1.5bn from crypto exchange in ‘biggest digital heist ever’English
261·11 months agoThese incidents sincerely undermine some of the “big advantages” of blockchain. I worked for an NFT company for awhile, and we talked about how people stealing like this would just have the funds reversed because the blockchain can fork to solve it. But that shit rarely happens, or if it does, it’s probably all international money laundering. I have 0 faith in the community now, and it was a whole cult back in 2021.

Atheism@lemmy.world•Going through faith crisis. (+ give An advice)English
3·11 months agoI grew up Catholic, left when I was young (teenager, in late 30s now) and became a somewhat militant atheist for a long time: militant in the sense that I was looking to logically spar with believers.
About a year ago, I went through a reverse crisis of faith: I started to believe again due to very weird circumstances. I found myself at a Unitarian Universalist church, and it’s been life changing in the best way.
UU has Christian roots, but there’s no forced dogma. Everyone is welcome, including atheists and humanists. The core beliefs are around the inherent dignity and value of all human lives. It’s more like a faith or values community.
UUs have service on Sundays. Many are super welcoming.
I’m sorry you’re going through a rough spot. Like many others have said, this is about your relationship with certain people moreso than God. I think you’ll find your tribe eventually.
Peace be with you, homie.

In game design, it has to be stated whether it’s multiplicative or additive. Sometimes a logarithmic function is used as well, with increases in efficiency as 1 / ( 1 + bonus ). This allows you to always add more bonus, but there’s diminishing returns.
