  • That’s funny, you are like opposite me.

There are a lot of exceptions, Morrells are actually one of the few mushrooms that can kill you or make you very ill if you don’t cook them long enough, so I wouldn’t even call them exceptions. They still require knowledge and prep. That includes chicken of the woods which can be dangerous depending on which tree it’s growing on.

Oyster mushrooms on the west coast of the US are a fair bet, someone in this same thread made a good list, but it’s regional. A high percentage of the poisonings in California (Australia too as I understand it) used to be SE Asians who mistook them for paddy-straw mushrooms. A lot of these articles are saying that it’s more wide spread this time because of “naive” people harvesting. I hope it’s not like food insecure people trying to fill caloric gaps…

There are plenty of amateurs who rise to the ranks of expert, but the consequences of error can be very high. I recommend anyone who wants to harvest to learn to spore print as part of identification. Harvesting any wild edibles requires a lot of research, mushrooms topping that list by a fair margin.

  • You make a really excellent argument! People have been in essence vaping weed via hookah and shisha for a long time. Mixing weed into your shisha doesn’t result in a full combustion. The steam chalice tweaked the design to remove the shisha, but it was still in essence the design borrowed from something that’s been used since antiquity. But it was still like the invention that basically every stoner in the world, let alone anyone who visited Jamaica, had in their head

The modern electronic vape movement, which arguably started in coffee shops in Amsterdam in the 90’s, started introducing electronic temperature control. Which imo is what I mean when say modern vaping.

But yeah, don’t disagree with you at all. I would maybe say forced air was never developed beyond volcano cause they patented it and very aggressively protect it.

I wonder how many of these people are just lonely, and this let’s them be around people all the time. No 3rd spaces, no mental health services, your only interaction is with your coworkers or typing on a phone.

It’s either that or a cult, cause these people are unhinged with this shit.

  • The ADHD drives the anxiety in my experience. The way psychs in my area typically do things is step based, let’s treat this symptom that’s the worst, then get this under control. I had uncontrolled extreme anxiety that was causing all kinds of other problems, but I also had undiagnosed adhd into my 30’s.

After fucking around with meds for a few years, I finally found that the thing that made me THE MOST anxious, was the uncontrolled adhd. I would be ok for a while on just anti anxiety meds, but ADHD + crowds/noise/stimulus could eventually lead to a panic attack.

Long story short, I had the epiphany on an international trip. I would not take Adderall during vacations or weekends, but this time I did, and my anxiety was totally controlled while it was in effect.

When I got back to the states, I got on a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor rather than a stimulant type adhd med, cause you build that drug up in your body like an SSRI and it provides is effects consistently. This has made the biggest difference in my ability to interact with the outside world without anxiety.

  • I don’t even think anyone thought that hard about it. Immigration scary, waves of immigrants coming into the country type rhetoric was enough. It’s not even about taking jobs, these people don’t engage with the fact that exploitation of mostly illegal immigrants is why they have available fruits and vegetables at all. Our entire food system is built on making immigrants do difficult, dangerous, and degrading work.

These people are worried about their taxes having to pay for illegals when they themselves are struggling. It’s wild shit!

  • I think Palestine was a demotivating factor for a lot of people, Michigan was still a pretty incredible outlier, but Trump picked up Muslim and Arab American voters across the board. A deciding factor? No, but a factor.

Now immigration… I’ve talked to people who’ve voted democratic by rote for their entire lives who voted for Trump over immigration. It was an extremely effective talking point that was ignored by Dems early on, then ceded to Republicans.

  • Gum is tricky, if it’s cause you are clenching the gum is gonna make it worse. You’ll just be using your jaw more, creating the tension that makes those headaches.

I would seriously do body checks while you are working. Every little bit when you catch yourself coming out of a tight focus. Are you carrying a lot of tightness in your shoulders? Are you clenching? Take a few seconds to shake out and relax. I would come out of a session of deep work tight as a drum.

I had the same problem with Adderall, I found the non stimulant medications to work a lot better for me.
