Lemmy.world grew from around 51000 total users the moment 3rd party reddit apps started to shut down on June 30 to 71000 total users at the time of this post (July 1). That’s a 40% growth in about 12 hours!
Welcome new reddit expats!
lets go
Cheers Reddit (and all of my Karma). It’s great to have a good alternative.
This probably happened with every Lemmy server out there.
I was having timeout issues with most that I tried to use.
Today everything seems normal.
Hi, my name is power2bill. Feels odd to not have RIF on my phone. I’m going to lurk for awhile and make a comment every 2-3 months. Hopefully, new communities pop up that I used to go on from reddit. I’ll be here enjoying usefully, and sometimes not useful information. Cheers everyone! 🍻

I’m finding that quite a lot of communities exist, they just take more work at the moment. For me, I’ve found a uk community but cannot post due to signing up to .world. creating an extra account doesn’t send the verification email. I see all this of teething problems tho as was always the case with reddit.
I think you might’ve run into another teething problem. This comment seems to be posted 8 times a few minutes apart.
Yeah, i notice that and tried to cleanup a bit. I think you’re correct tho, it was probably a teething issue

Glad to be here and be a part of the community! It’s unfortunate Reddit is going the way of Digg, but definitely looking forward to watching Lemmy grow and develop.
Awesome!
Looks awesome!

Amazing. I’m sure it’ll keep growing too
Why is it that Iemmy.world not opening? I’m trying to open it in my phone’s Brave browser
Given the… frankly absurd rate at which people are signing up to servers, and subscribing to other servers, and posting and commenting and upvoting and…
I mean it’s getting a bit hairy, and user growth was already following a very steep growth curve.
Good luck infrastructure teams!
When I joined reddit more than a decade ago we also had frequent periods of instability, I think this was around the time digg users fled to reddit.
I am confident it’ll all be sorted out along the way.
As a new user from reddit, wanted to say thanks for welcoming us and working hard to accommodate us!
First comment on Lemmy. Is there a ELI5 for Lemmy to help us get started?
I’m here after ten years with Baconreader. Really sad it’s gone, but I’m super hopeful about my future here! If anyone knows of any communities that enjoy watches or fountain pens, let me know!
@BoxOfFeet@lemmy.world Enjoy :)
FYI, sub.rehab is great for finding if/where your favorite communities have migrated.
Edit: added watches community and formatting.
I finally made an account after things got stable. A +1 for the active user count. I mainly lurk, but it’s actually compelling to engage here.
