I don’t know any pirates, but I sure do know a lot of people that share copies of files on the internet.

11·5 months agoCertainly comparable… Less instances of murder, less direct impact on accused social justice offenders, more impact on fellow victims of accused social justice offender.
Likely not as well thought out action, more emotional reaction.
Certainly comparable.

5·5 months agoI don’t know when that was, but check out lower decks, prodigy, and strange new worlds. They’re all a bit different, but are definitely Trek. Strange new worlds is kinda Next Gen with a bit more modern humor and special effects. The other too are animations, but lower decks is very adult. Prodigy is probably more family friendly, but it was really good.

Technology@beehaw.org•The OnlyFans inheritance: how its owner’s death could reshape the porn money-making machine
5·5 months agoShe should just donate all the profits going forward, and focus on making sure anything on the platform is legit consensual sex work and not people being forced into it. Not that I think that happens a lot, but she sounds like she’d be up for improving the system to better know for sure, and provide better support and resources for sex workers in general.

Free and Open Source Software@beehaw.org•Readest (cross platform ebook reader) gets infinite scrolling
21·6 months agoDoes this mean epubs won’t stop and require a new page to load at the end of chapters / new file segments?
It’s one of my biggest gripes switching from mobi single file ebooks to epub multi-file ebooks.
Should just append the next file and allow the flow to continue.
Been waiting for such a change for epub reading apps for many years.
Update: OMG yes, it works! (Not by default, scroll mode must be opted-in first via 3-dot menu)
Now I can maintain the same scroll while reading habits I do for online content, PDFs, and Mobi files while reading ePubs! Bout damn time!
This is now my default ebook reader everywhere!

31·6 months agoMeh.
I’m not saying don’t watch it. But it’s so much drama and family junk, I get bored pretty fast. Oh hey, a monster, that looks cool. Somebody unimportant dies. Ok, back to the drama.
I won’t be rewatching it.
SOs HP laptop borked Win11pro OS, wouldn’t load or recover. Tried reinstalling clean but Win11 installer can’t see SSD. Driver loading during install results in install crashing error.
Linux, here we come.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•How can I use social media anonymously?
33·6 months agoWhatever man.
I change up my writing style pretty much constantly.
And I switch between muliple accounts on several services, each representing a different fictional character.
And I use a VPN.
Seems aight, I’m fine with FF ATM though.
I do keep alternates around for rare issues, so when helium is out of beta if it ever is, I may install it.

Star Trek Social Club@startrek.website•Hi StarTrek.website, I'm Karim Diané aka Jay-Den Kraag from Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, AMA! (Responding to questions Thursday @4pm!)English
4·7 months agoThere will always be disasters, and suffering, and unfortunate events, and there certainly have been throughout Star Trek, but I too would prefer we had more protopian sci-fi.
I think SFA is actually trying to be more light and positive and less serious and dramatic, vs Disco for example. SNW seemed to make that intentional shift as well. And I think that’s also why other ST properties like Lower Decks and Prodigy are so highly rated.
SFA started out pretty dark, and I immediately went ‘yuck’… But again, I think they are working their way towards something better. Reopening the Academy is kind of a reboot for the Federation, so it’ll probably be getting better still.
I wonder what kind of insight Karim has into this, that he can share?

2·7 months agoSC plays my favorite SFA character… I played a game with my SO to see if she could spot him on the show. She cheated by accidentally seeing him in the credits after the first few episodes. Was fun while it lasted though.

7·7 months agoI hope the man gets to your question too, to tell the story himself, but just in case he doesn’t, after the AMA, you can search the web about him and his character and Worf or Dorn. There are articles that briefly talk about the two of them touching base on the subject of portraying Klingons on Star Trek.
But, again, I’d wait till the AMA is over. It’ll likely be more meaningful hearing it direct from the source.

That’s a nice catch.

Anything that is just local hardware can be saved or copied to an encrypted cloud drive of your choosing, via VPN if that’s what you want.
You don’t have to use a security cam system that hosts the cloud storage, or acts as a middle man between you and a live feed.
There are local systems that can host remote access portals too.
These things existed before things like ring or wyze…
