I remember this being a Sega channel staple for me and my brother.

ADHD@lemmy.world•What's it like to switch from lisdexamfetamine to methylphenidate?English
3·7 months agoI just had to switch from Vyvanse to Adderall XR because the only pharmacy in my area that didn’t have a backorder closed. It’s only been a couple weeks but I greatly prefer the Vyvanse, however the Adderall is better than being unmedicated. Adderall isn’t as “smooth” and it gave me a tummy ache and caused headaches due to inadequate hydration. Since I figured out the hydration issue the headaches haven’t been a problem and I think the tummy ache was just due my old guts getting acclimated to a new medication.
All that said, I am in a similar boat financially, my insurance wasn’t paying for the Vyvanse so I ended up using my entire HSA contribution every month, and the Adderall is $20.

ADHD@lemmy.world•White and pink noise show promise in enhancing attention in those with ADHDEnglish
6·1 year agoI prefer brown noise, it feels less harsh to me.
Edit: should have read the article before commenting, the author includes brown noise.
I feel this in my bones.

Programming@programming.dev•Hi, I want to start programming but dunno where to start and which language to learn
18·2 years agoLots of good technical starting points here. I don’t want to prematurely discourage you, but before you get into any code, evaluate your problem solving abilities. If that is an area you struggle in, work on that first, or at least in conjunction with programming basics.
I’ve worked with engineers who have all the code skills, but when faced with a complex issue, struggled to break it down into it’s simplest components and wound up with a messy, over-engineered solution.

Experienced Devs@programming.dev•Senior Devs in huge corps: Do you even code?English
3·3 years agoMy employer (< 20 total employees, 3 total devs) was recently acquired by a much larger company. Our lead dev was made a manager and no longer has time to code and I was made a team lead and now half my time is spent in meetings, code review, or deployments. I am finding that with limited time for coding I am writing more concise, thoughtful code.
The hardest part of the change was adjusting my expectations for the product. We can no longer deliver what we want at the pace we want as that is now dictated by someone.

Experienced Devs@programming.dev•Advice on dealing with ADHD and remote work?English
1·3 years agoFellow ADHD remote dev here. I started using my own computer in the middle of the main living are of my home, that was a disaster. Ended up getting my own laptop (later replaced by company laptop), setting up a corner in my unfinished basement as a work area and haven’t looked back.

As an old-head full stack developer who prefers back end because there is no ux, just information flow, I can tell you that you are seen.
Something like a survey that asks me to assess whether I agree or disagree on a scale of 1-5 fills me with so much anxiety, especially when the question is worded in such a way that makes me feel like it contradicts its sentiment, or just doesn’t apply to me. Why can’t they just give me a separate not applicable option.
