I assumed itd be triple that.

I assumed itd be triple that.

I can only guess its because of the fear of getting sued for sexual assault. The details of the story unfortunately dont matter, many folks just read the headlines and theyll just remember “helping them will get you sued”
The difference was far smaller than i anticipated, so im mildly relieved. Hopefully, should i be right, we manage to dispell these fears

Oh i wouldnt say its worse at all. I prefer nested replies all the way. Regardless, i still wouldnt say lemmy fits the forum format, again due to the way you access the most recent replies.
In a forum thread, you go to the last page and youve found the latest comment. In a Lemmy post, even if the nested comments arent hidden, its not obvious at first glance which one is the latest comment.
Also, if you “bookmark” a forum thread, youll get notified of any new replies in said thread. On Lemmy, you can check the latest comments from an entire instance or community. But not for a specific post.
Again, id never phrase lemmys format as worse, for i greatly prefer it. But i wouldnt consider it a forum. It simply displays the information diferently

Id say finding the latest comment is harder here. Sure, its not that hard when looking post replies. But comment replies? They can be nested, pretty much buried behind the “See more replies” button.

been rocking silverblue and then its ublue variant for a while. This sounds very interesting and definitely worth checking out.
I love how ostree lets you rebase to any other ostree image with no issue. The switch is just a matter of rpm-ostree rebase something something and its as painless as it gets

This is a tale of one individual that swooped in, during the recent Reddit blackout, to bolster our community.
I read that as botched, not bolster. I thought weve been sabotaged from the beginning, and only now we were starting to pick the pieces.
Very glad I misread that. Thank you guys for making this instance possible. Its been blissfully neat so far.
But fr, i was like this when i misread that:

This saves me an extension, but i dont see it fully solving the issue of “its not clear its opens the overview” that the activities button had. Someone recommended to include a tip in gnome tour so that might help to solve it.
In the mockup, a suggestion was made which i think looks very interesting in the animation they provided

What is this meme alluding to? can i get a tldr?
Huh i wasnt aware of the advice of counsel defense. Seems like the conditions are effective in blocking misuse of said defense. I do wonder if there has been a big case where this has been used succesfully, bc it doesnt really sound like a good strategy, even if we consider a less crazy context than this one.

Imagine how its gonna be when we refederate with lemmy.world 😵💫
Very interesting to live in this time. A decade ago i felt twitter was unmovable. Now there are all this alternatives, racing to become the new standard.
I legit believe Threads is going to become the “true” succesor. The others will exist, but will not fill the hole twitter is leaving.

Goddamn i needed to read that. Very infuriating to read the quotes saying “Youre going against the point of federation guys. Were supposed to be open for big corporations to harvest our data”. Glad to know someone refutes those claims and explains why we are wary of meta

This is the closest to time travel you’ll experience.
Your desktop looks like that anime girl is staring at that ominous terminal, displaying neofetch while floating in the middle of her city

when you summarize the different Linux distros
Correct me if im wrong: If we add up all personal use cases, we get a number hihger than 100%. Same thing with professional use cases. That means users didnt choose just one option in the survey, but multiple. So adding up all distros will give us an inflated number, where there could easily be duplicates (e.g. someone chose both ubuntu and arch. That should be one vote for linux instead of two).

I like blogs like this. Its important to not stay too comfy in one spot and recognize the flaws in software in order to improve. The comments already try to spot the core issues and offer solutions and its great. I share most of the authors points when it comes to federation. Creating an insta account and sharing your pics on twitter is easy as it gets, you just need two accounts. Im aware this is a growing technology, but I wonder how much of it can be improved, and how much is already set in stone.
It is, of course, odd that the author brushed off descentralization so quickly, especially considering that post was written a couple days ago. Has he not been paying attention to Reddit or Twitter? Sure, if you switch to another instance youll still be under an admin, but you can switch to a saner one. You wont be stuck with the only option. Glad to see this being pointed out in the comment section
The kbin bit is also odd to me. I thought that was just a bug?
Good writeup nonetheless. Wish opinions like this become more common, with the hope that itll be translated into improving the platform

I really hope something good comes out of this situation. Would really suck if reddit gets away with it and users obligue and go back to the official app.
Thank you for this. Just a few hours ago i decided to start using rss, so im trying to put most stuff i read on my feed reader. Any way i can make it display comments too? Im imagining not, but im wondering just in case, since i tend to spend a lot of time reading discussions and bickering on r/aita

Im honestly surprised twitter is still standing. Like how. How is it still going.
I believe there is a browser extension that lets you block posts about rich people, in case you truly dont give a fuck about their endeavours. I dont remember its name but you could certainly use it
