I had to noodle on this one for a while and ask around. I think, and this is only a guess, that this might be “consensual non-consent”, which is a role play of sexual assault.

Ironically a few years back I was starting a project at work and was told one of the machines was a “miyano” I didn’t know what that was so I googled it… Entire first page of images was anime.

Turns out it was a 12 axis lathe…

Well it had 3 bits from different directions that each moved in 4 axis(in/out, up/down, left right, spin) which could be used simultaneously and controlled independently.

Yeah it’s not something you program repeatedly though. You basically program once and hit a button and walk away and it will make hundreds to thousands of whatever.

My understanding was you basically programmed it in steps. So like on step 1 operation on one bit, on other bit at same time run this operation and on third bit run this operation at same time. Now when all of those operations are complete move to step 2 and repeat.

To make it more difficult there was also an automatic bar loader and a automatic bucket changer(it dumped the parts into buckets).

Also to make it run fast you tried to balance each axis operations in a each step so no axis was ever stopped waiting for the other operations but you also had to stop them periodically to control heat and not break the bits since due to the products we were not allowed to use coolant.

It took 3 senior engineers and 2 junior engineers 2 years to set it up to make 3 different products reliably. It was awesome when it eventually ran properly though.

      Consensual non consent.

Also known, or formerly known as rape play.

It’s more blunt, but people who have been raped would point out that there’s a big difference between the sexual nature of consensual non consent, and the objectively violent nature of rape.

It’s less that it’s less honest than that it’s more clear about what it is, and what it isn’t. It’s about what people think rape is about, and not what it actually is: angry, hateful and violent.

But consensual non consent as well as rape can be soft

            Eg free use -> CNC

Or use of power, like financial dependency -> rape

That’s fair, and a good example on the first one.

I don’t really care to quibble on the details too much, but I believe a lot of definitions would distinguish the coercive from the forcible.

In either case, it speaks to the cnc phrase being more apt than otherwise.

Well I needed someone to explain consentual non consent to me because its not really logical, and I didnt need rape play explained to me, so there’s that. Seems sort of silly we needed a politically correct term for it in the first place.

Seems to me, it is more an accurate term. „Politically correct“ is still signage of „I am a right-wing asshole“ btw. Even when those assholes switch terms regulary.

You do know that no one made them switch terms right? The people doing it and using the term decided to change it because it made it more clear when they were talking to each other.
Since you hadn’t encountered the idea before, I don’t think they’re super concerned about their sex lives being easy to explain to you. Your opinion isn’t super relevant to other people’s sexual preferences or the words they use to talk about it to each other.

Well, less than the people who said “oh, okay” when they learned what the term meant. Getting hung up on how you feel about the words they use for their sex lives is really weird.

I’ve found that subs really dig it when you’ve machined your own spanky tools…

Also, HAAS are some jank ass machines. Tiny ways, newer controls are glitter covered shit, they fucked up the remote handwheel…

Babe, you got a Haas? I said I wanted to try CNC, not this Fischer Price Tinker Toy shit.

(I don’t actually hate on Haas but I know they’re often more light-duty than some other options.)
