It’s basically the modern version of warcraft 3 custom games, second life, or gmod.

It’s an engine and a platform with a shared cash shop.

Generally your life is improved any time you choose to not engage with gnome or it’s nonsense. It’s a good rule of thumb for everything Linux related.

Gnome is just bad apple.

Literally just the immutable thing. Otherwise it’s either worse or equal to every other flavor of the month option.

So it just comes down to do you consider immutability a positive. If you do it’s the top of the stack since other options are not immutable.

Honestly it’s pretty easy to decide if you should use cachy or bazzite.

Do you use your PC for anything more then office PC or console? If yes pick cachy. If no pick bazzite.

Atomic is great till you have to do fucking anything then it’s more effort then it’s worth basically instantly. And iv seen more people break bazzite trying to do basic shit then iv seen cachy randomly explode because “arch is unstable”.

Bazzite is not a home user desktop os, no atomic os is. The entire concept is basically designed for locked down office PCs and consoles where you don’t actually do anything with the PC but use it.

If your giving a PC to a elderly family member, a child, you do actual business on it that’s mission critical. Bazzite is fucking fantastic, so long as you also never give the admin password to the user.

Seriously the entire atomic concept really is… Baffling tho… Its best use case is one that doesn’t really exist in the same context as gaming unless it’s a console. It’s baffling that bazzite is as popular as it is. If not for the simple fact there is an absurd amount of misinformation around arch and really Linux in general.

Because people cling to out of date knowledge from a decade ago because of memes.

Really 9 times out of 10 normal fedora is better for most avg users then cachy or bazzite.

I just wish Debian didn’t use apt. Got fuck I hate apt. With a fucking passion. FUCK APT.

But I do love Debian it’s always been the most reliable thing ever.

The img predates ai… So no it’s not ai. Tigers are just jacked as fuck. When they are relaxed the skin is saggy yeah, but when they actually flex or are in a pose that tightens the skin the muscles are normally very defined.

Avoid Ubuntu like a plague it’s one of the least googleable distros there are. It suffers massively from poor documentation and out of date fourm posts. Not to mention gnome at this point has endless weird problems for new users.

Iv helped over 200 people over the last year change to Linux. Gnome has been the cause of almost every major problem with them.

Stick to kde, stick to fedora or arch, stay away from lts releases or anything with an older kernel.

There’s a really good reason steam went with arch.

Iv met enough phd holders to know that they can and frequently are still unabashedly wrong on the vast majority of everything they talk about that isn’t hyper specific to a narrow and niche topic.

So phd level intelligence to me just means it’s more prone to the being confidently wrong and judgemental.

Gnome is like the t virus. Slowly trying to devour everything else and convert it to its side by force.

If you want a console like experience on your PC then use bazzite. If you want the same experience but with out the console lock down use cachyOS.

Depends on how much you do with your PC really. Like bazzite has one of the best out-of-box experiences there is. Basically everything is preset up. But if you need to say, leave the steam ecosystem. Things become infinitely more complicated than any other distro to do anything with that is both the benefit in downfall of an immutable distro. It makes sure you can’t f*** anything up but it also means you can’t f*** anything up if you get what I mean.

While cachyOS has the exact same out-of-box experience with the sole exception of you have to push one button and type in your password. And if you do need to leave the steam ecosystem, it’s at the end of the day a normal distribution so you can just do whatever you want.

The downside is you can do whatever you want so you can break s***.

Basically comes down to bazzite is basically old Windows. You are not allowed to do anything really without a lot of jumping through hoops. It means you’re going to get a consistent experience and it’s going to be reliable, but only within the operating parameters set out by the distribution.

While cachyOS is basically all of the same upsides but without any of the guardrails. So if you want just a good out of box experience it’s there. All the compatibility is the same if not generally better in the real world. But again, if you’re stupid or unable to read basic instructions there’s a good chance that you break something and you’ll have no idea how to fix it. Short of a reinstall.

I would give a child bazzite 100% of the time. Immutable this shows work is a fantastic form of parental control. Because while the barrier exists and will prevent most kids from doing something stupid with their computer, it’s not insurmountable and you still can do whatever you want with your computer. It’s just not easy.

But in either case, I would choose literally shooting myself in the foot before using anything in the debian or Ubuntu family if my primary goal is gaming. I love Debian but it in its family of distros are so out of date and require so much f****** to actually bring in newer packages and make sure that they actually compete even half as well as a fedora or arch-based option that it’s not worth the hassle. You’re far more prone to breaking a Debian mint popos install. Trying to make it equivalent to bazzite or cachy for gaming. Than you are breaking an arch install by just randomly installing packages from the aur without reading anything.

Immutable distros are currently the flavor of the month and it’s basically just that. Bazzite is just a worse cachyOS. But because it’s immutable it’s the flavor of the month and therefore it’s the hype new thing.

Everyone loves the hype new thing. Even though in all realistic aspects, it’s more overly complicated. It’s more prone to causing issues for new users. It’s less proven.

There’s a good argument to be made that the project might just end up imploding in a year or two and dying out and f****** over all these new users who are flocking to it because of rampant suggestions.

Is also the general issue of Fedora and its family being prone to breaking itself from early adoption of new ideas. People love to give Arch s*** but Fedora tends to be the one that actually implodes itself for low-skilled users.

Got to love flavor of the month

It suffers from the same problem all Debian/Ubuntu family distros suffer from.

Being horribly out of date. It’s a very slow moving family of distros. Which can be a good thing if your work load doesn’t involve new hardware and software along with a focus on stability and reliability. Since if things don’t update they can’t break.

This can result in support for hardware and software being upwards of two to three YEARS out of date. Which for gamers for example is unacceptable and causes issues more often then not.

It’s the why fedora or arch based distros are generally speaking the better option to suggest to people. Depending on their level of intelligence, education and willingness to learn.

Bazzite and cachyOS for example are both fantastic for gamers.

Fedora or endeavour for your run of the mill office PC.

There is a serious argument to be made that the mass adoption of bazzite and the general flavor of the month affection for immutable distros is very likely going to cause issues for loads of users down the road.

So bazzite being overly popular is somewhat concerning. Flavor of the month distros have a bad tendency to implode randomly.

Cause Debian is an out of date rock.

But it’s still a rock for better or worse and rocks are a pain in the ass to do anything with that isn’t just having it sit there.

Iv come to learn over the years. If you want to buy computer parts just do it.

Your actively stupid if you don’t cause some bigger idiot with more money then brains will make a new grift that causes everything to be unaffordable.

Fuck waiting for deals, fuck thinking twice. Just fucking buy it and ignore reality around you cause you will be pissed either way.

First mistake using bazzite second mistake not using cachy.

Third mistake? Playing Hogwarts that game just wants to not be played it’s wildly hard to get to work right for some damn reason.

Suggesting anything that isn’t arch based for a gaming focused solution seems stupid as hell to me. No matter how you cut it, there’s a god damn good reason valve picked arch as a base for steam os.

Other solutions are just not going to be as good. Will they work? Sure you could game in Debian for heaven sake and be perfectly fine.

But it’s just more possible problems. Gaming is basically the exact inverse of non cutting edge. It’s the exact worse case where even bleeding edge may not be new enough to properly support things even months after release.

If your playing 10 year old games anything does fine, but other wise your updating packages to what might be newer then your distro supports regardless as which point why arnt you just on arch where that’s less prone to explode.

Just switch to dota from league ez fix. You get your toxic moba addiction fed and you can ditch league!

Open RGB is a absolutely fucking shit show.
