One of ublue’s offerings are probably best. Immutability is great for resiliency and updates are easily rolled back if something were to go wrong. Bazzite is great for gaming, otherwise checkout Aurora and Bluefin.

tbf, Wayland was hardly relevant for some of that. the first feature request I found was 4 years go. implementing it also required upgrading electron a few versions, so a decent bit of work.

Discord didn’t take very long to add it at all, what took a long time was fixing audio streaming.

This is Wayland specific. Wayland does not allow unfocused applications to intercept keyboard shortcuts for security purposes, so this is how they must be implemented.

Yep, that was actually my second distros when I switched to Linux a few years ago (right after PopOS). Its a good distro, essentially Arch with a better out of the box setup. If were to go with an arch based distro today, I’d probably choose CachyOS for the package and kernel optimizations, but both are good.

Arch-based distros are definitely CLI centric, but if you don’t mind that then its great! Just keep in mind it is a rolling distro, breakages aren’t super common, but they can occur. A backup using Timeshift is probably a good idea. Also, I wouldn’t rely too heavily on the AUR, remember they are unofficial packages and are more prone to breakage. Id prefer flatpak for GUI apps at least.

I’m surprised to hear that, I don’t think cosmics default configuration has much in common with windows. It uses a MacOS style dock and and status bar by default. The workflow is also very customizable. I personally use it with just a status bar and always have tiling on, similarly to how one would use Hyprland or another tiling wm, since that’s what I used before cosmic. I love plasma too, but the fact that you can’t have separate workspaces per monitor unfortunately makes it unusable for my workflow.

PopOS is in a rough state. The stable ISO is using absurdly an absurdly outdated desktop, and the beta using COSMIC desktop. I personally love COSMIC, but it is far from stable, so I would not recommend it to most users.

CachyOS is a great distro. The performance gains from its changes won’t be huge, but the people acting like its nonexistent are silly. They also make many upcoming performance improving features like NTSYNC available early in their default kernel.

I definitely wouldn’t go Debian or Mint for gaming personally. I don’t like stable distros with such slow release schedules for gaming, mainly because of stuff like the prior mentioned NTSYNC. You don’t get those new features for a long time.

I saw people recommending Bazzite, which is a distros I highly recommend. The only issue I have with Bazzite is that installing kernel modules they don’t ship is pretty much unsupported and requires a lot of jumping through hoops. Most people won’t need this, but it matters from some use cases like if you need steering wheel drivers.

Hopefully I can find the molex cables that came with my PSU, I know I have them somewhere.

Thanks for the tip about grounding, was not aware of that. I’ll either be getting a second PSU or upgrading to one of those Super Flower ones, depending on how the costs work out. I just remembered my GPU doesn’t need a power cable, so that should open up even more ports.

For the molex to SATA splitters, did you need to get one specifically wired for your PSU?

GTK 4 was released in 2020, they also dropped the plus from the name in 2019. GTK 4 is a big update and would be a pretty massive amount of work to switch to. I don’t know when, if ever, XFCE will switch to it.

GTK 4 released 9 years after GTK 3, so it’ll be quite some time before GTK 5. If Wayland doesn’t have better accessibility than X11 at that point it’d be time to give up on it as a project, and maybe desktop Linux as a whole.

Hey, thanks to your suggestion I got 8 SAS drives and a PCI-e SAS expansion card, but I’ve realized there’s something I didn’t really consider. How are you powering your drives? After my upgrade, my server will contain 12 drives, which my PSU unfortunately does not provide enough ports for. Is simply upgrading it the best option in your opinion?

Being available as a flatpak doesnt mean it will only run as a flatpak.

I’ve been using a framework since the first edition they’ve released and it worked great. Theyve only gotten better since.

Many people were or are fans of franchises made my Ubisoft. They’re mad to see these IPs they enjoyed being ruined, which is fair.

You’re definitely out of date on your knowledge then. Nothing inherently insecure about any of these. Only download software you trust, just like you should be doing with any software format!

Linux isn’t about choice, it’s about freedom. Distro’s don’t owe you the choices you want, because the devs have the freedom to make what they want. You also have the freedom to modify them or make whatever distro you want.
