Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Bad experience on selfhosting nextcloudEnglish
2·1 month agoI tried to get it working with calibra office, but gave up 🙈and do agree that it is one of the more difficult programs to setup on a server.
When I started my Linux journey a couple of years ago, I tried lots of distros and experienced some of the same frustrations. The distro that hooked me and just worked was Pop! OS. It was very user friendly, didn’t require any fiddling, it just worked. Later I wanted a more up-to-date system, and after trying several distros I settled with Fedora.
Other thoughts: …be sure to install Timeshift (system rollback app). …my experience is that gnome desktop is easier, cleaner, less tweaking and less overwhelming than kde.

Next one is the derp server… but that may be out of reach with my knowledge 😅
Thanks. enabled the acme service thingy in the config file. Took me some tries before I understood I had to add port 80:80 from the docker yaml in order for headscale to setup the certificate. I guess I need to keep forwarding both 8080 for Headscale and 80 for certificate renewal.
should I, or is there a reason, to setup fail2ban too?

Zorin linux - the closest thing to Windows you’ll get. Highly recommend. Installed it on several computers for family members who just want a computer that works.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What is the best way to sync images to my NAS?English
4·6 months ago- USB cable from iPhone to PC.
- Sort by date in filemanager.
- Copy all images since last date backed up to my PC.
- Review and delete crappy images.
- Move to my NAS via filemanager.
- Create a textfile called t.ex. 07juli (so that next time I know to copy files after this date, since I like to keep most pics on my phone).
Do this once or twice a month :)
Stupid people are easier to rule and fool.

Great work, amazing application 😊
