I mean, radioactive isotopes are formed in supernovae, so it’s really just solar power from a different sun, right?

Science Memes@mander.xyz•Do you have what it takes to become a geologist?English
8·1 year agoMitch Hedberg jokes while high is a pretty smart move. Either that or you’re the only person who finds them funny and end up looking like an idiot.
None of them, they all grow it in their backyards or harvest it in the wild

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•In your country, what "common" animals are tourists most excited to see?
31·2 years agoAustralian white ibises. They’re kinda like the Australian equivalent to a raccoon in the US; they eat rubbish and their roosts stink because they tend to congregate in a single tree and then shit everywhere. But they are quite unique looking birds: long beaks, black heads and white plumage. So the tourists find them quite interesting and the locals call them bin chickens.

Huh, TIL. That actually makes sense
Order matters in academia whether the authors want it to or not. Other academics will look at the order of the authors and make judgements based on that, so you’d have to specify something like “authors listed alphabetically”.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is your most embarrassing "ate the onion" moment?
21·2 years agoCan’t remember what the article was, but it was a local one for an area I don’t live in (I think it was a Canadian one). Anyway, ate the onion in a large discord server I had just joined. I was mostly just trying to become part of the community. Nobody corrected me for a couple of hours until some smug bastard said something along the lines of “…at least I know it’s a satiric publication.”

World News@lemmy.ml•Bottled water contains 100 times more plastic nanoparticles than previously thought
121·2 years agoI’ve seen a lot of reporting on finding microplastics in new places and new quantities, but is there reliable evidence that it actually does damage? Genuinely asking, can someone please send me the papers?
Hey, I’ve heard this one before!

This has got to be the funniest summary of A Wind in the Door
