I agree with your sentiment about positive social interactions being important.

But the thing is, and I think that’s what the poster you were replying to meant, that you need zero knowledge about evolution to notice that. Everyone notices it in daily life. Scientific studies give us evidence about our social nature. If we didn’t know about evolution, the conclusion would still be the same: we are deeply programmed to be social. If the same conclusion is reached with or without a specific piece of information, then that information is useless for predictions, like the previous poster said. Or are you in all seriousness telling me that the reason you gifted your XBox to a kid was that you have an understanding of evolution??? And without that understanding, you wouldn’t have thought of making that gift?

  • I’m surprised noone mentioned xbox series S yet. It is really cheap (I got the certified refurbished version for 180€ and it looks and works like a new console). With the game pass you get a huge amount of games, including new games (Starfield, Avowed and Stalker 2 will be included on release in the pass) and also many games from the previous generations you might want to catch up on (Elder scrolls 3 to 5, Yakuza series, GTA5, Star Wars games, Persona series, Minecraft,…). If you’re willing to spend more, you could also get the series X, but personally I think it’s not worth the extra money because the higher performance doesn’t translate to more fun gaming (IMO). Larger memory is nice to have though.

I also have a steam deck and think it’s a great product, but being a handheld, it is a fundamentally different console with different advantages and disadvantages.

Concerning the games you asked about, I recommend Minecraft, Stray (buy on sale, it’s great but really short), Elder scrolls series and Life is strange if you’re looking for a beautiful story. Since you’re getting a steam deck, you might wanna check out Pokémon fan games and rom hacks if you’re a Pokémon fan. I find them to be even better than the originals. Ironic that I can easily play the Pokémon games I want on the steam deck, but would have to put in a lot of work to get them running on a Nintendo console.

  • I use the app Inoreader for that. No idea if it’s the best, just the first one I tried and I’m happy with it.

Then you just subscribe to the feeds you are interested in. Almost every blog or news site has an RSS feed. Just make sure you don’t subscribe to any that make dozens of posts per day, or you’ll end up overwhelmed. My personal favorite feeds are the top 10 daily hacker news and a few youtubers I like.

  • Totally relate to that. I love discovering new things and reading many different people’s thoughts on a topic, but every platform based around scrolling on a feed is too addictive to me. If I use them too much I can already start to feel some cognitive abilities decline after a few days. The slow pace of lemmy is really nice.

You might also be interested in curating an RSS feed for yourself if you haven’t already.
