  • I dont know, I’m starting to understand it. Like, the last marvel movie I remember making a point to see was the most recent Spider-Man (however long ago that was), and I was falling off before then. I watched Loki, but that was it other than catching parts of a movie on streaming. I missed all the other big shows. The fucking mountain of mediocre media it feels like I have to climb to get caught up is absurd. So, if it’s something like watching a (one) movie or a series to get context – fine. But if I need to start by looking up a guide and watch order just to get hours of subpar content, then I’m out. I’ll watch the new Spider-Man, and complain when you rely on some flop from a year ago rather than construct an actual plot that’s reasonably self-contained.

This is coming from someone who reads and collects comics. I’m no stranger to the “read this other series for 1-?? issues to get the full story!”, but MCU is something else entirely. Wide where it should be tall.

  • It’s worth a watch, but for the theory itself essentially the effort/resources required to colonize planets that are not earth-like is unsustainable. A lack of a self-restoring cycle for resources and general ecological needs would inevitably lead to one of a variety of possible collapses. This would lead most intelligent life to avoid extensive expansion due to the heavy cost. Issues brought up with the theory in the video was stuff like tech advancement improving the practicality of life in free space as well as the possibility of differing biological needs (i.e. if a species went more mechanical or used AI/machines they could bypass the need to terraform or transport basic biological needs).

A lot more and better explained in the video, but that’s the gist

  • I think you’re spot on. I’m leaving because of the 3PA issue, I’ve been using RiF for ages and this whole ordeal made me aware of how much reddit had changed behind the filters I put up (RiF, RES, etc). I feel like I’m probably in the minority that are already jumping ship, I think there will be a lot more when 3PAs stop working and the effort required to learn a new app is about equivalent to picking up Lemmy casually.

It took me like 20 min to get up and running, and while I’m still learning I already have an app for it and its generating a feed that honestly feels almost nostalgic. There will be another influx of people unless a more accessible alternative crops up in the next two weeks.
