This frog was first discovered in the early 1900s, but it’s skin-piecing bone claw mechanism wasn’t discovered until 2008. It’s nickname of “wolverine frog” is 100%, definitively, objectively, named after the comic book character, and not the other way around.

Well yeah, the frog has been around. The name Wolverine frog is more recent than that though. More frequently it’s called a hairy frog.
