if you haven’t introduced yourself already, please feel free to do so
Hi, I’m four babies in a trenchcoat. My interests include grown-up things like businessing and adulting. I am definitely an adult. Ignore the first sentence.
Vincent Adultman :-)
I’m yet another reddit refugee. Just wanted everyone to know that there’s a combination emoji for a bee wearing a cowboy hat:

I hope you know this emoji has made it to the Discord 🤭 Welcome to Beehaw!
Nice! Is there a public Discord server for Beehaw? I can’t seem to find a link to one.
i’ll DM you an invite to it; we just dropped it from the sidebar for now because we’re already a little thin with attention and don’t have discord mods yet who can specifically keep an eye on it.
We have a Discord but it’s private for the time being, I’m sure it will return to the front page sidebar as soon as things settle more with the instance itself.
Hi! I’m not just a Reddit refugee, but an everything refugee. Or at least, that’s how it feels. I’ve been online since the mid-80s, and I’ve seen platform after platform be acquired and burnt down under me. I’m pretty much used to it by this point.
That doesn’t mean I like it.
I’m an old-time geek. Huge bibliophile, particularly fond of old science fiction, fantasy, mysteries, children’s books, YA, classics, and humor. Oh, add graphic novels and manga to the list. I’m also a long time tabletop RPG player and GM. My system of choice is the Avalon Hill edition of RuneQuest 3; my RQ site might be the oldest one still existing. Of course I play other systems as well. I’m into deep role-playing, and would definitely like to find people who are interested in that sort of thing!
My primary activity over on Reddit was recommending books. I have a resource of nearly a thousand book recommendations that I have created over the years. Hoping to be able to make recommendations on Lemmy, too.
What else? I’m a pretty good public speaker, and was an invited program participant (i. e. panelist) at a regional New England science fiction convention for over 25 years. I’m an atheist, but I advocate tolerance and understanding between atheists and theists (and yes, I’ve done panels on that topic too; they were great).
I was a redhead when I had hair, with a redheaded son. I’m the single divorced father of a newly-adult son. I’m currently unattached. Oh, and I’m apparently demisexual.
I live in Massachusetts, USA. I like cats, cooking, walking, and well-written TV and movies. I’ve been refining my grilling techniques for about 35 years now, on a lifelong quest to make the perfect burger.
Hi, im a redditor. Probably won’t be for long though.
Im a c# and typescript developer, computer enthusiast, avid book and comic reader, and a fantasy and scifi fan. Im very introverted and agoraphobic, unskilled at social stuff, badly overweight and less-than-optimally-active, and just started on anti-depressants. Other than that im an utterly boring person.
Ahhhh I know the pain bud, I’ve struggled with that myself as well, in a better spot than I was though still a bit of derp. Felt like I was a complete snoozefest of a person and that I was pretty unlikeable, depression is a total bitch like that.
Don’t mean you’re a boring person though, like it seems you enjoy a nice mix of stuff and there ain’t no shortage of folk on here who dig things like programming, comics, etc as well on here and folk are pretty chill and welcoming from what I’ve seen so far too.
Credit where credit is due though, its a really difficult thing trying to live your life with depression hanging over you, but hey you’ve still gone and made a post and are starting on anti-depressants, these are some pretty awesome big steps even if they don’t particular feel like it right now :)
Oh fun, another C# dev. I don’t do much C# anymore due to job direction but it’s my favorite language hands down. What kind of dev do you do? I’m mostly in the cloud these days doing backend stuff.
What kind of dev don’t I do? At work we are building a webapp for making exercise programs. I’m working with C# and VB (both .net framework and .net 7), Typescript (frontend), Javascript (EmberJs mostly), some PHP (our old CRM system), Azure and MySQL administration, Azure VM Windows and Linux administration, and devops. So very much fullstack. Its a small company so it used to be only me and the CTO doing dev. Luckily we’ve gotten more good developers the last few years and now we’re 7 devs.
Private I’m doing powershell stuff. Sometimes typescript stuff. I used to do a bit of gamedev but not much anymore.
Yo!
Software developer and gamer. Started on the Commodore 64 with both and never stopped.
Having been through several tech enshittification cycles, I’ve long been wondering when Reddit would be too “meh” for me. That happened earlier this week, when I decided that Lemmy was more the tech and community I was looking for. Planned to leave gracefully during June.
Then I saw the AMA and… That set off my “Fuck This Shit with a Vengeance” so currently coding up a script to make my Reddit account die very ungracefully.
I too started on C64! Though in my case it was as late as '92 when a seven year young kid got an already old C64 with cassette player, a manual, and no games. Sometimes one gotta make ones own fun, literally.
Heya everyone. Found this place when I was looking for Reddit alternatives after getting the shut down message in Apollo. Checked the list of alternatives on a subreddit and was immediately grossed out by transphobic sites and fucking VOAT of all places being in the list, so randomly running into this place after that was very relieving.
Big into tabletop RPGs, started with Pathfinder 1st edition a long time ago but have mostly been playing D&D 5th edition with some sprinklings of OSR and PbtA-influenced games (well, game, singular. Blades in the Dark is super fun though!) Like most tabletop fans probably, I’m also into fantasy/sci-fi media.
Happy weekend!
voat’s been dead for years. it was a great place to troll the losers there though.
Blades in the Dark looks cool.
I just wrapped a multi year BitD campaign, highly recommend.
Looks like there are quite a few people into TTRPGs around here! Maybe we should have an LFG community?
Hi, I’m Omni. Older cis het white dude. Likes math. Not as dipshitty as the previous two sentences imply, I hope.
In a previous life, I wrote a moderately successful indie game. Currently, working part time in R&D for a small nuclear engineering company, and spending the rest of my time in independent study. Currently working on group theory.
Hey everyone! I’m excited to be here. I’m still learning how everything works but I look forward to the future! I have a question though, if I’m interested in, say, working out, I can’t seem to find any communities. Does anyone know of where I can find a workout community, or do I need to join a different instance outside of beehaw?
Hi!
If you find the community in another instance, you can subscribe to that community from here. The sidebar of the community should have some rough instructions.
Hey everyone! Thought I’d add to the ever growing pile of Reddit refugees. In all seriousness I have been watching in horror at how reddit has been declining over the last few years and the 3rd party app debacle has finally forced me out into what seems a much healthier and happier community. Can’t wait to get to chat to you all!
Hey guys I made a post. This is my first post and will probably be making more posts if the vibe is right.
Hello, I’m green_witch!
I’m a travel-weary drifter from the festering ruins of “that place”, where I spent most of my time lurking.
I enjoy herbalism, mycology, bushcraft, botany, nature, and consider myself a student therein. I’m unfortunately pretty timid, and my grasp on language is tenuous at best, but I’m trying to open up more and (hopefully) be a part of a community.
I hope we can all treat each other well and make something neat together.
Hello I’m a nonbinary/masc leaning lil guy. I work with high risk populations at a non profit in the pnw. Feels weird to not be a programmer or something, seems that’s what all the bee-hawers and fediverse users are into these days. Um, I’m autistic and have adhd, in my mid 30s, like to ride my bike, play pikmin bloom, garden, and take up hobbies quickly and then leave them for like 3 years. Oh I am also a really yuge music nerd, like, actually. Mmmmmmmyeap
Howdy! I’m a mid-30s game developer. In a past life (my 20s) I was an astronomer, but academia sucks so I gtfo’d. I like to ride bikes, but I fell out of the habit over the pandemic; just getting back into it now. I enjoy boomer shooters, and indie games. Gay and trans and loving it.
Academia sucks soooo bad, i agree. Had to get out of a dream project because it was too much.
Yeah I was pretty close to finishing a PhD but my life kinda fell apart. No regrets on leaving, other than waiting so long.
I never got a PHD but was really good at my stuff so they hired me for this huge neuroscience project. It was hard to quit, but a little part of me was dying every day I had to deal with deluded megalomaniacs running things they have no idea how to run… life is too short for regrets
Hi, I’m an architect and I eat too much mayonnaise. Used to be on reddit and forums and bbses and I found my way here. I love reading scifi but I wasn’t too active on reddit because of the enders game brownshirts. It’s nice being here
As a neurodivergent person of trans experience, online socializing is critical for safely recharging my social needs. This seems like a good refuge from the plague of corporate interests at the moment. I’m excited to explore and enthuse with everyone :)
