The Bible is a historical document. It’s even a historical historical document! We never read any historical document uncritically, not even modern ones.

There is a lot of Rabbinical study of how the Bible was written and modified in pieces over time and for what anthropological reasons. This field is called Source Criticism. It is more prevalent in Reform Judaism than Orthodox, obviously.
