- Doesn’t an impeachment need a majority in the house and then the senate? - 2/3 in the Senate - Thanks, I got confused with this part: - This triggers a federal impeachment trial in the United States Senate, which can vote by a two-thirds majority to convict an official, removing them from office. The Senate can also further, with just a simple-majority vote, vote to bar an individual convicted in a senate impeachment trial from holding future federal office. - Ah, yeah. If they reach the 2/3 to remove, then a second vote can be held to ban from office with a lower 50%+1 vote.
