Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Changing to Openwrt router made my Homelab slower. Could you help me dissect the issue?English
1·1 month agohey thanks. I flashed openwrt since day-1. so I cannot comment on that. (And I personally bought this router specifically because people mention good thing about openwrt supports it)
I will be doing as you say just to check out but after every bit of resolution i could think of.

Linux@lemmy.ml•What would be your distro of choice if you take the security with ease as the top priority
1·3 months agoThanks for the thought process it’s really helpful and also reassuring since it’s quite similar to mine and yeah. Secureblue definitely sounds cool but I’m afraid it would not fit my dad’s need. In the end it’s gonna be up to whether I and my father can trust the maintainers or not

1·3 months agoFirst time hearing about Secureblue. And it sounds great. Though their motivation is quite welcome to see, I’m unsure if it will be actively maintained for a long time. It’s quite young project.
Yup. At this point, I’d just want to run Linux like normal on modern MacBook. Man my m1 MacBook Air is still a beast and with all good hardware.
I’m sad too. But I think it’s quite logical given people that use Mastodon probably already know or heard of proton. Marketing is particularly effective for people that don’t know of them (at least while they are small)

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•I don't understand the purpose of some selfhostingEnglish
2·1 year agoAgreed. Do I expect my mom to manually plug in the usb flash? She ain’t have slightest idea of what a file is. Same goes for Nextcloud everything and Syncthing. Setup and done is Immich. The lead dev of Immich explicitly mention his motivation was to make it easy to backup and share pics with his wife and child.

1·1 year agoI know right. “All important stuff -> emails” has to change.
Yeah. My point being in terms of AI use, there aren’t really differences between lemmy and Reddit since the data is public. I don’t even see the point why this topic is relevant to privacy.
I wonder what’s different on lemmy though. At the end of the day, this platform is just another platform on the internet which almost anybody have access to. Sure AI use is not on the ToS. But anything open access is assumed to be privacy unfriendly anyway. If it’s the dm feature, it’s a different story.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Which other disk backup solution do you recommend other than Clonezilla?English
1·1 year agoThank you! Great info. After some reading, I went with Rescuezilla which is yet another GUI for Clonezilla. I might give the foxclone next time!

2·1 year agoThank you for the insight. Changes are incremental I suppose. You are correct that it’s more efficient. But I kind of want to back up the whole disk since I can keep a bootable drive with it right?

Mlem for Lemmy@lemmy.ml•Bug: When Typing in the App, the sound is too loud!English
3·1 year agoIf you don’t have problem elsewhere that’s good. It’s well known bug that have been plaguing iPhone for many years though. And I believe this one is part of that. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/254742111?sortBy=rank

Mlem for Lemmy@lemmy.ml•Bug: When Typing in the App, the sound is too loud!English
5·1 year agoMine does that too. Honestly I’d blame Apple for this shitty implementation of keyboard sound. This behavior is not only on Mlem.
I remember hosting server option was somehow paid.
That’s somewhat my reason for I decided to go with Joplin
Didn’t know this was a thing. Thanks!
