raindrop.io works well for me for most of what you’ve mentioned, but its not selfhosted so I’m interested to find out other options also.

A global look at Short form video as the latest trend in mass misinformation campaigns, including which interest groups, or states conduct them and who they contract (from large scale to possibly unwitting small creators) to produce and post it. How it developed from prior trends, and where it might go next. Perhaps not particularly controversial (in the true sense of the word), but geopolitically worth looking at and discussing more in imo. Of course a privacy and security focus on this is very much integral to the issue by default. How the existing business models around the data involved (harvesting , auctioning etc) might play into this already , and in the years to come. As well as how other business is implicated. Good old “Follow the money” I guess .

1·2 years agoMy main prob with viewtube has been its flakey resolution auto or manual selection. The UI with it is weird and i basicially have to randomly click unclick autoselect , and switch between resolutions before it somehow lands on 1080 . Might be my browser and OS combo - macOS librewolf. Hosted on kde locally. Otherwise love it. But I dont use much other than search and watch. I use metube if I want to keep anything.
Yeh its not exactly doing that for me. Just very flakey with manual selection of resolutions. My bandwidth is not a good test for the autoselection right now unfortunately. Need to test with and without DASH. Very promising though. Ive kind of given up on public invidious instances or similar so might be time to selfhost something like this.
I hadn’t seen this frontend before. Its nice. Yeh quality selection does seem a bit buggy for me also (librefox). I see under the user settings (click account top right), there are some settings for default quality and mpeg-dash. I havent tested myself but just spotted them. Maybe try these ?
Edit: i skipped your mention of “installed “ viewtube. We may not even be looking at the same thing lol. Im looking at viewtube.io . Perhaps the same if youre selfhosting anyway.

Wheres the melodrama in this post ? I’m detecting enthusiasm maybe, but not melodrama. They’re looking for peoples thoughts and experience, i.e what your own terms are for making these choices. Seems reasonable. Sharing that is optional of course and I also choose not to, end of story.
