If I remember correctly he also lived before the Great Vowel Shift wrapped up. So his poetry used to rhyme, and who knows how many different ways his name has been pronounced over history, or if we’re even right about how we say it now. Standardization is nice but we kinda locked in grammatical atrocities and are stuck with a mess now. Not sure if that’s a hot take. 🤷♂️

Programming@programming.dev•Why do some people fork repos but make no changes to them?
6·3 months agoI’ve forked before when I needed a specific version easily stored somewhere, like a Node package. Or if I intended to make changes but didn’t have write access. Or I wanted to save a repository in a way where I can easily find it in my repo list. But more often than not, I intended to pull down the code and contribute to it but for one reason or another didn’t.
Plug for Tuta. 🤷♂️ The user experience isn’t the best, but it’s as secure as it gets. Small team, no vibe coding.

Linux@lemmy.ml•How much of a pain is it to install Nvidia GPU drivers, really?
11·9 months agoNo, you’ll be fine. And some distros trivialize it. In my case I don’t get as good of framerates as I would on Windows, so there are some issues due to Nvidia not providing open source drivers, but it still works with Linux.

19·1 year agoI’m intrigued. And although I read the article, I’m not entirely sure who or what this is for. It’s cool, but… what?
Crazy thing is, Wukong plays like a giant boss rush. Yet I adore it because the difficulty is so incredibly honed in and boss attacks are so well projected. Sounds like Sekiro didn’t refine their difficulty quite well enough.
I love the game, but did admittedly struggle for one reason: regular enemies are pretty easy, then you’ll be hit with a boss that stonewalls you. There’s no build up in difficulty. Enemies = trivial. Bosses = ludicrous. Additionally bosses are often a battle of attrition, and I don’t have the sanity to last several minutes engaged in the same attack pattern.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•What is your private way of watching YouTube videos when Invidious or Piped are not working?
4·1 year agoI’ve been using their GrayJay desktop app, and I’ve enjoyed it so far.
I haven’t checked out FreeTube but maybe this is the push I need.

6·1 year agoI’ve had a good experience with GrayJay. It’s a bit young and missing features but it’s never broken for me.

Speeds weren’t too bad for me, but setting it up was a pain. Even when AIO came out, I spent hours trying to get it right. After several years and tearing it down and rebuilding now and again because something would get messed up, and realizing it was nearly impossible to get it to work with Tailscale instead of a reverse proxy, I decided it was time to throw in the towel. Nextcloud parades itself as a product anyone can use, but in practice it feels like it was meant for enterprise users.
