Retina and DNA scan really don’t seem safe if it’s enough to touch a person to get their DNA and replicate one lol. They could at least check for a pulse like modern fingerprint sensors do.

I quite disliked this episode. Yeah, I get it, the good message and character redemption is in there at the end, but I find high school drama trek really boring; at least episode 1 was mostly back story, episode 2 had interstellar diplomacy and a somewhat brave change of status quo (the Federation command being built on Betazed).

Still, this show really makes it seem as Starfleet Academy is failing: every meaningful lesson is learned by disobeying; the captain of the school team is chosen by who can shoot the best side-by-side, instead of who has better leadership skills, and the try-harder understands the other try-harder is a better captain only during a clandestine match; in the first episode, the ship is saved by Caleb only because he already dealt with the pirate in the past, all the other cadets and officials stood there getting injuried; the only thing they learned at school is how to grow a plant and their rector telling-not-telling them to use empathy and patience to prank the other school. Where is the discipline, the team-work, the diversity that makes the whole more powerful?

Oh and really? College mascots? Team jersey? Lasertag? Did we forget this show is set in the 32nd century? Do we have to believe that the main academy of an insterstellar institution, the most powerful of the galaxy at some point, is operating like a 1990’s US college? I get that imagining the far future is difficult, but at least try. Baseball in DS9 already felt out of place, and that was only 300 years in the future, now it’s like expecting every university in the world, in 2326, to run the same way as medieval Oxford University was when first founded. Discovery did a better job setting up the far future in its 3rd season, I don’t know why they reverted, TNG and DS9 felt more futuristic in the settings than this show.

I think it’s more about learning to be human. He imitates other people and their mannerism not because they find his nature inconvenient, but because he think that by imitating them he can understand.

Why is the Enterprise NX-01 missing a nacelle?

Can’t really advise you on what to do, but here’s some conaiderations:

• I still use a 4th gen i7 with 16 GB ddr3 and a gtx970, still going fine in its 10th year. Just recently upgraded to a gtx1060 I found around • 10 years old techbology isn’t really any diffetent than today, only slower, but luckily architectural incompatibility is becoming less and less of a problem (except when it’s forced upon for no particular reason, see win11) • gpu especially are extremely backward and forward compatible, if you only need more VRAM, you can use a modern gpu with a very old mobo and cpu and chances are you’ll be as good, and even if you need to upgradr them later because you are cpu-bottleneck, you can still keep the gpu. I’m guessing in 90% of cases, pci lane speed is relatively unimportant wether it’s gen3 or gen5.

Basically, upgradr when you feel you are limited in what you can do, ignore the pressure caused by the generations passing by, as time goes on, I predict we’ll need less and less hardware upgrade until a nee revolutionary technology comes about that changes everything.

Didn’t know about that formula. Is it used behind the scene but never mentioned, or just used retroactively to explain the difference between the different series?

In Voyager and TNG it has been established that warp 10 is infinite velocity, that means the warp scale is not linear (the differencr between warp 9 and 8 must be higher than the difference between 8 and 7). After all, Voyager’s max speed of 9.975 is faster than Enterprise D’s 9.6.

Then again, warp speed has always been quite inconsistent, so who knows which scale they are using…

Not a good choice for a name, at first I though it was just another linux phone that would be useless for 90% of people.

Very cool project instead, hope this can lead the fondation for a 100% open source mobile OS.

I’m not only talking about electrical power, communication is also a form of power transmission over distance, they established thay for communication they don’t “constrain the signals in the wire, so they can be blocked from outside”, so I’d gueds they transmit everything wirelessly, including inter-person communication, diagnostics and commands to engines, which is crazy

Cable stranding is a common way to get a metal splinter, but they already established that copper cables are not used on a ship (which I find just unrealistic, you can’t just wirelessly power and transmit everysingle thing on a ship).

About Pike’s hair, am I wrong or is vulcanian Pike’s hair even more erected than human Pike?

The entire episode, while enjoyable, was prettt rushed, if it was split in a two-parts season finale they would probably fit in more explaination scenes, like at least an aknowledgement from Batel and some more explaining/exploration of what she was.

The villain is “evil itself”, I don’t really see a way to not make it one-dimensional, he is literally one thing only.

From what I get it, the fantasy/hallucination wss made by Batel for herself and Pike, because she knew they would never see again andshe (somehow, I guess that’s part of the Beholder superpower?) constructed a fake world so they could, in some way, live their life together. That’s why Pike didn’t suffer the accident, and that’s why Bayel thanks him on her deathbed and tells him to open the door. She got her life together with him, it was time to get back to reality and become the Guardian.

That’s also why the falling star happears in the planet, she told him she would follow everywhere in his heart, and a falling star happears (“here I am” she says in the fantasy life).

“Energizing the romulan rubber ducky” is not something I expected to hear on a kid’s show

The irony is that nowadays, something that is universally considered non-human is able to do these things, arguably better than the average human.
