Many of my relatives are diehard MAGA. So, when Trump said not to wear masks or quarantine, my aunt and her husband and son went out of their way to basically spend every second they could at superspreader events. They were warned it was dangerous, not restricted in any way, but still felt the need to act out to validate political feelings.
Naturally, they all caught COVID in the early days. My uncle and cousin both passed, leaving my aunt as a devastated shell of a woman. When we would see each other at family dinners she would usually just sit with a far-off, forlorn look. Every once in a while she would tune in for a bit to spout some pro-Trump bullshit. I wanted to scream “He helped to kill your family!”
I decided to just stop spending time with these people before I said something I would regret.
Specialists poring over the first draft list of plants and animals to be ferried over: “Are you crazy?!”
Just frisbee those things in random directions until one works.
I was also wondering why I kept seeing the same “Faith” email pop up over and over again. Makes sense if it’s a series, though I feel they should link to each other if so.

5·4 months agoSomehow my boss at my last job added a page break that didn’t show up when I turned on show hidden characters. It took me about six hours to figure out how to remove the final blank page. Online help forums were useless because he did it in such an unusual way. Looking back, even I think that surely I must have been mistaken because it’s too absurd that it would be that hard to delete a page, but I vividly remember turning on the hidden characters and getting nowhere.

My experience as well. So far I’ve run ~20 games through steam and never even needed protondb advice as it just worked.

91·5 months agoI’m always treated like a loser nerd for stopping some drunk dad from throwing a box of leftover fireworks on the bonfire or something, because it’s not like anything would happen. We’ve done this a dozen times!
But, survivorship bias aside, injuries are very common! And severe!

8·6 months agoJust recently started my second viewing of TOS, and I was surprised how well the writing held up.
Tap for spoiler
There’s one episode where a guy builds an artificial human, and his wife is like “Did you have sex with it?” And he responds “Robots can’t feel love.” “Did you have sex with the robot?” “They only follow commands, it could no more love than a toaster!” and everyone just kind of stares at him for a beat before moving on and you can tell from that moment on everyone knows he built a sex bot.
Both are example of stubborn group members who need to be flexible and work well with others.
Stuff like this is why games usually end by the 6th session.
See also: rogue steals from the party because “It’s what my character would do!” but gets upset when my barbarian kills them afterwards for the same reason.

3·10 months agoThankfully I made it through the first season of the Office, which is now a favorite show. If I can make it through that when every episode gave me psychic damage, I can make it through anything.

A few months back I was visiting my retired parents, and I wanted to break the routine a bit and decided to sit at a lakeside table we never used because it was redundant.
As I walked up to the table and sat my stuff down, I heard a “FWOMP” followed by a sound I can only describe as “chitinous rubbing”. I slowly checked my surroundings until I noticed an almost basketball sized mass of wasps waking up that had fallen with part of a hive underneath the table. In a moment of extreme calculation I decided the only one of six things on the table worth risking stings for was the tablet, and I sprinted for the first time in years to get away.
So, I guess thanks to the wasps for the fun new core memory.
