Linux@lemmy.ml•Announcing Faster, Lighter Firefox Downloads for Linux with .tar.xz Packaging!English
2·1 year agoBut it makes finding a properly functioning official package more difficult for newer users, and really the etc. was superfluous. You only really need .deb, .rpm, and whatever arch uses. There is a flatpak, but it doesn’t work properly.

71·1 year agoWhy do they not just ship normal packages (.deb, .rpm, etc.) or an official flatpak that functions properly?

Linux@lemmy.ml•Confirm or reject my suspicions about the massive default window sizes
1·1 year agoI have this happen sometimes on various resolutions, saw it a lot when I was on windows too. Idk why it happens.
I did, it didn’t help. I switched to the flatpak version just now but the integration the preinstalled version had (option in devices thing to run with VLC)

Linux@lemmy.ml•Compatibility is the only real issue anymore (opinion/discussion)
11·1 year agoI think you missed the point of the entire post a little bit
Give alvr a try, but you’re probably best off just using windows for VR.

2·1 year agoMaybe try suggesting Vivaldi? It’s not the best (and it is still chromium based) but it’s way better than chrome and has all the garbage that people talk about on opera. I use Vivaldi myself and I like it a lot.

3·1 year agoLogitech’s apps still don’t work on my system, but I don’t mind most the time. Hopefully it’s fixed soon though bc it’s be nice to have those apps again.

Science Memes@mander.xyz•Infintiy Infintiy Infintiy Infintiy Infintiy Infintiy Infintiy InfintiyEnglish
1·1 year agoI know what colloquial means, but apes cannot be colloquially referred to as monkeys. They are to far removed. You are confusing something being colloquial with something being a common misconception, that many people do not understand taxonomy at a middle school level does not make it a correct statement. Also, colloquial generally refers to how “proper” the language is being spoken (including the usage of slang and stuff like that), and not the factual correctness of it.

2·1 year agoWe evolved from the same species as monkeys did, not from monkeys. They weren’t actually monkeys until they were already very far removed from us. However, given that we are apes and thus there was at some point a human ancestor species that was ape and was not human the rest of that is right. Off the top of my head that species would probably be our last common ancestor with other apes. Edit: typo, I had spelt monkeys as monkies

Yeah, interacting with Lemmy content is pretty much the same as it is here
