  • You have summed up exactly why I hate high deductible plans. Every year at open enrollment I have this debate. And every year I do some math and always convince myself that the high deductible is cheaper and that I should just go to the doctor when I feel like it. Even knowing that, there’s still this weird mental block.

It’s just so extra frustrating because everything involved in living here feels like some sort of dumb economic calculation. “Should we eat meat this week or save up for when it’s on sale?” Eating out for “fast food” if we’re in a hurry hurts because it’s cheaper to go to a real restaurant.

I dunno, it’s just all mentally tiring and it’s hard to get into a mode of just enjoying life. I just want to do the side quests and have fun but end up with Lydia in my house guarding my hoard of potions I never use

  • I think you’re on the right track. It’s like they heard “you can’t hold and observe an electron” and just really ran with that but missed all the actual nuance behind it. Still baffling why they would print this, seeming to point to on something like only god knows how electricity works while there’s a person using a very clearly engineered device and electric socket.

  • Oh this touches close to him. I got into pgfplots since it would generate plots in latex at compile time and keep fonts consistent, etc. plots looked amazing though.

The worst was when a colleague couldn’t get a pdf to upload into a google doc, so he just made an ugly ass bar chart in excel for the final draft since that was easier. The only reason he could do that so quickly was because he could read the data so easily from the plot I made. Ugh. Still burns

  • I thought that the assembler is a specific program that translates mnemonics into the corresponding machine code. Perhaps in early computing this was done by hand so a person was the assembler (and worked in assembler), but now that is handled by software (and supports various macros). So programming in assembly would generate a stream of text that must be assembled by an assembler. (Although I have heard people refer to programming in assembler as well, just not often.)
