Privacy@lemmy.ml•Most, if not all car companies collect and profile your data, how can I improve my privacy when buying a modern car?
2·2 months agoI as a person wouldn’t even blame myself for buying an ICE car because I blame corporations for global warming etc. But I just want an EV because it’s cheaper to run, is more environmentally friendly, I can plug in to a wall socket at home, charge with solar panels etc.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•As usual, the Israelis let the cat out of the bag because they think we can't translate things
7·2 months agoHey nobody cares if you block them. Do people have to be so aggressive on the internet lmao?
Totally fair. I personally think Al Jazeera has been a positive force, spreading the word on the Gaza Genocide, the Sudanese massacres & conflict, and their unapologetic leftism. And the Qatar government hosted peace talks between Israel and Palestinian groups. I have never heard that BBC presenter thing though.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Zohran Mamdani Just Inherited the NYPD Surveillance State
1·2 months agoFast and free buses, free childcare, and paused rent, whilst taxing the rich and defunding the police are socialist policies. He also is someone who calls himself a socialist, so people voting for him are at the very least, okay with a leader calling himself a socialist.
Hey could you elaborate please?

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Zohran Mamdani Just Inherited the NYPD Surveillance State
4·2 months agoI think going full guns blazing with communist policies will simply not work in America, without a bloodbath. Zohran Mamdani is currently an unapologetic socialist, with great policies that will make NY great, and show the rest of the world what socialism really is.

177·2 months agoYou know, as a leftist, you don’t always have to be so nhilistic. Mamdani, is a socialist, who showed that in the biggest turnout, in the biggest city, in the richest country in the world, socialist policies are now popular.
He will at the very least, make millions of peoples lives better, even if it’s marginal, and at the most, will show America and the rest of the world what policies they need.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Finally switched my fiancee to bazzite, fuck me was it a trial
1·2 months agoWeirdly enough linuxmint with lutris + steam works fine for me. I followed this guide in order to figure out lutris configurations. Don’t download protonupqt though, just download through lutris.
this is where ngl, the opensource community doesn’t win. I prefer Ableton hands down.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Backup unique files on old windows computer and recommend me a linux distro
1·3 months agoI am largely a beginner, I run mint on my desktop, and have just figured out wine/lutris. But I’m pretty good at following instructions, and researching issues to find a way to fix it.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Tile/AirTag/Chipolo tracker recommendations for GrapheneOS?
1·3 months agoI back FindMyDevice. Simple setup, just give it permission (The necessary stuff works is easy to give permission on GrapheneOS) And give phone numbers for it to allow. I personally don’t have a second phone so I just put in my family’s phone number. and as simple as them texting “FMD Ring” and my phone started ringing. Same with “FMD Locate” Which gave a general (But not perfect) location. Very good app, only wish there was a UI on the other phones end.
use stremio + Torrentio and optionally a paid Real Debrid subscription. You can actually stream from torrent found from thepiratebay or other torrent sites.
Micheal Bazzel recommend ClamAV, havent tried it though

9·3 months agoNot a tech person, try https://redlib.perennialte.ch/ github: https://github.com/redlib-org/redlib If you don’t make comments this works fine.
Bitwarden if you share accounts between two devices, keepass if just one.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Sonetimes i feel like its a lot of work to stick with linux
2·4 months agoI fathom they use it because its what they have always used and it comes with there device. Often people find its linux which takes the extra work.
If you want to use windows for testing, I would recommend something like Atlas OS for debloating: https://github.com/Atlas-OS/Atlas edit: for testing

Linux@lemmy.ml•Sonetimes i feel like its a lot of work to stick with linux
3·4 months agoStill windows but if you remove the bloatware, its “a turd” but it smells less. If that helps. Windows is terrible, I agree, but for those who need to use it, any software like startallback, or something like the chris titus tool should be recommended.

How does this stand up to GrayJay with multiple devices connected sync and cross platform use?
