I think part of it is also that a random stranger in a star wars shirt can be anyone. A random stranger in a star trek shirt is a nerd, and therefore more likely to be a cool dude.

Yes exactly, you can walk up to anyone in a Star Trek shirt and by simply saying the phrase “favorite captain?” you’ll probably have a new friend two hours later.

Oh man, there were a pair of middle-aged guys at the table behind me at a restaurant recently, and I SO BADLY wanted to join their conversation! Favorite Romulan ship class, U.S.S. Pegasus: treaty violation or necessary development?, Best DS9 episodes… they were my kind of people.

The star wars equivalent of this is dropping a tactical nuke with the question of modern or old lore and then asking for their favorite era.

I know plenty of folks who love the old clone wars multi media project from back in the 00s. When I say new I mean Disney specifically maybe including the 08 clone wars cartoon.

Yeah, it’d have to be a specific piece of Star Wars media the shirt referenced to compete for me. Like KOTOR or Andor.
