What’s stopping us from using the api to post all of reddit here in a massive one-time merger?

Obviously the Lemmy devs would have to do it, but would there be legal issues? I think it would solve most of the problems with Lemmy, really.

If you see a thread on Reddit that you are interested in, consider making a similar one here.

I don’t want a reddit 2.0, I want what lemmy may become on its own.

I mean, I see no problem with someone creating an instance specifically for this, it would even be good for archival purposes. But doing it here? Hell naw, I don’t want r/conservative or whatever other the_donald-like hellholes Reddit still has, polluting Lemmy.

There is also the problem with “gone wild” style subs, where the users posts their own explicit pictures, but that doesn’t mean they want those pictures reposted elsewhere without their control.

That does unfortunately come with the territory of posting anything on the internet though, especially explicit material.

What if we did it JUST ONCE?

We just need the content that’s already on there to massively improve things, we don’t need a computer constantly running updating the content, we really just need it over here once to match reddit, then we can replace it.
