I assume we’re just picking up from the adult timeline, the question is more of when. I’m guessing after X3, but in a timeline where Charles has returned.
It’s also possible we’re picking up after Days of Future Past in the “fixed” timeline, and the fixing done in that film is why they are involved in multiverse shenanigans.
