That’s me towards the musical episode of strange new worlds. I despise musicals, and now I’m not looking forward to watching this new season, just because of that episode
Worried about a whole season because of one episode? Dafuq
Honestly?
Not too fragile…
You don’t have to dread the whole season, you can just skip that episode if you want
What a snowflake 🤣
It’s kinda self-aware, but I was a bit awe struck at the amount of work that must have gone into the episode. So many different songs with different genres of music - I can’t imagine the time involved in creating it much less performing it.
Hey, give it a chance. I love musicals, and I went in dubious that it would be pulled off. When it was announced, I didn’t think that they were up to the task, and I have to say that I was very pleasantly surprised that SNW did it an did it well. It’s different, and it’s a risk, but you know…“risk is part of the game.” At worst, you don’t re-watch it.
TOS was pretty goofy— ya know, when it wasn’t pure sci-fi horror. it was also gruesome and scary as shit sometimes! SNW does a good job of capturing the goofy tone specific to TOS, although Trek has always had a pretty goofy streak. You can easily find it in every series!
From the various series in between:
- “Ménage à Troi” (TNG S3E24)
- “A Fistful of Datas” (TNG S6E8)
- “The Magnificent Ferengi” (DS9 S6E10)
- “Take Me out to the Holosuite” (DS9 S7E4)
- “Bride Of Chaotica!” (VOY S5E12)
- “Babel One” (ENT S4E12)
Several I’ve omitted throughout, not counting the low hanging fruit of LD, but clearly Trek as a whole is steeped in plenty of silly episodes.
not a bad list. Bride of Chaotica! was about as hammy as hammy gets, and it was hilarious, mostly because of how serious Kate Mulgrew’s Janeway was. I love that episode!
My defeat is but a temporary setback!
The wife and I are loving SNW. Particularly in relation to Discovery. I could have done without the singing in the latest but I can still appreciate what they’re doing, I just don’t like musicals. And you’re right, the original series was often goofy as hell.
SNW is definitely the best Trek since TNG in my view.
Some people just hate fun.
This is my least favorite Star Trek episode of all time. It took me multiple sessions to get through it.
Worse than Profit and Lace?
Worse than The Way to Eden?
I’d have to lookup what that one was about, but I am inclined to say, yes.
More worse than Spock’s Brain?
Brain and brain! What is brain‽
Oh yeah, for sure! I was excited when Spock’s brain came up as I’ve always heard people say it was the worst episode. But i didn’t think it was that bad.
Worse than Sub Rosa or Threshold?
100% worse, threshold was at least a little silly.
Well I’ve finally got around to watching it. It’s definitely not good, but it’s nowhere near the worst Trek I’ve seen. The major issue I have with it is the actors for the most part just aren’t good enough singers.
Profit and Lace was hilarious. You take the back!
Tbf, Rom was great in that one
Leeta’s face when she’s watching Rom walk in heels and it awakens something in her is pretty good, too.
Thanks, that kind of what I expected it to be. I don’t remember that being too bad.
