Been there, had that conversation.

Been there, had that conversation.

Seems a reasonable line in the sand to me.

Here come the camps…

Something something monitor deez nuts.

Well I must have misread the context of your comment because I didn’t need that explained and agree with you.

Not who you replied to, but how so?

Personally I don’t care if a CEO voted a different way to me, or even if a whole board did. This should not have any bearing on Proton’s product or what makes it better than others.
I won’t have a friend who supports Trump, because to do so is to support a regressive, bigoted, jackbooted view of the world and how things should be done. I don’t speak to my Trump supporting family members except when family situations force us to.
WHY ON EARTH would I trust my privacy to a company whose entire board supports that view, much less their CEO?

Nooooooo not Proton! 😡

Can’t go wrong with Hitchcock.

I think it depends. My son is deep on the spectrum. He’s pretty pleasant, and he can tell if he’s making someone upset or angry, but often has no idea why.
I could absolutely see him being rude or making someone uncomfortable without knowing it, and in many cases I think it would be a challenge to help him even comprehend how or why he was doing so, even if he could tell it was happening.
One of the things that makes me feel the worst for him is when he can tell he’s not handling a situation “correctly” but has no idea why. It really upsets him.
So yeah, I cut people who I think might be ND some slack.

How can we fix our political system so it no longer attracts the worst among us?

I mean, those three weren’t really a surprise, but I see your point.

I both am very concerned for the world order, while at the same time I cannot wait to see the fallout of this choice of the American people.
I felt this way in 2016. Now I’m just scared to see what the country looks like four years from now, and I’m not at all convinced he (or Vance) will leave.

And social media is awash with conservatives claiming this proves it was all a lie the entire time. So many own-goals recently.
Is any institution going to stand up to this buffoon?

I don’t have a substantial opinion about ReactOS. I’m aware of it, but that’s as far as I’ve ever gone.
However, I wanted to compliment you because that was a great opener to this discussion. 🙂
I feel like most of the objections could be satisfied by having non-essential holodeck stuff in rooms only.
So you have a bed and lighting and core furnishings without it. But you get to use the holodeck to adjust all that to your taste, decorate the room, and othewise make the space yours. Maybe you get a virtual companion if you are lonely.
OTOH, I think replicators are already capable of doing most of what would be done by the in-room holodeck in that case.
To me the energy needs don’t really matter since energy consumption only matters in emergencies in Star Trek usually. If the first things you lose when there are power issues are your decorations and your virtual companion, I think that’s OK…
Edit - and in the limited space available to a personal cabin even in the Trek universe - it would be cool for your kitchen to be able to become your movie room with a simple voice command, or a personal gym, or an extension to your main living area during a party, etc…
