  • You and I are in similar boats, except I only gave Windows 11 a single install on my personal gaming rig before going back to 10. With the threat of 10 going EoL, I’ll be forced to move to Linux soon, myself. After working in PC and Windows troubleshooting for over 20-years all my foyers into Linux have been met with self-imposed damage resulting in an abandoment of Linux. This happened with spare computers or server setups since Windows Vista.

I’m nervous about the future of my gaming addiction, but will not use Windows 11.

What is brain scarring? I’m 40 and was diagnosed with ADHD at 37 or 38. Where I used to be passionate about things, that spot has been filled with passive suicidality. No matter what, I can’t seem to will myself to do anything anymore. Habits I know will help me seem to fizzle before I can feel better doing them.

Having ADHD sucks for getting tasks done, but when the whole process of bettering yourself or your surroundings feels pointless, the only result is to wait to die, I guess. I hate this world.

  • Using Lemmy requires some modicum of understanding in technology. Most conservatives I’ve encountered tend to be technology-ignorant at best, and technophobic at worst. You don’t see as many differing political views on Lemmy cause some/most conservatives are too inept at technology or can’t be bothered to figure it out.

Reddit was just easier to get into, and as much as I personally like Lemmy, it’s a hard sell to some from the outset. If the signup could be simplified (which I understand federation and why it can’t be that easy), we could see an influx of more outdated viewpoints on the platform.

I also agree with others who have stated that most “conservative” philosophy involves denying rights to those who have only recently (last 50 years or so) been afforded rights equal to their own. I’m also growing increasingly suspicious of how much lead was actually used in the products consumed by boomers and some Gen-x before its use was known and most of it banned or removed from products. It seems too many in their late 40+ are going from normal human being with empathy towards others to RAGING MAGA CONSPIRACIST, seemingly overnight.

Start growing your own food, boil rain water for clean water, and avoid close contact with others for the next four years then? Can’t wait to hear about all the cases of preventable diseases, contaminated foods, and new, deadly viruses we get introduced to once these clowns take over…

  • That’s what I said to myself as I was slowly bludgeoned to death by multiple daily texts, emails, and ads to donate. All I hear about is how we need to get money out of politics, then begged by those same people to give them what few measley dollars I have after they bend me over and extract almost all of it in taxes. All the while their real constituents – billionaires – donate to whomever will do the most for them.

I’m no Republican voter, I’m voting against them every chance I get, but the spam does not make me want to donate. It’s like walking down the street and every 5ft is a hotdog stand with a super pushy vendor trying to guilt shame you into giving them money for the chance to see a hotdog while they give you an empty bun. I just end up adding the phone numbers and emails to my ever-ballooning block lists.

And before anyone @'s me, I know the power of local political movements. I’ve donated plenty to down-ballot races in my area and still do. I just hate this country’s political system and don’t understand the need for so much money, from people with so little, when those at the top reap the rewards of that influence, and the money they syphon from the system.

Gotta agree with others that mentioned The Outer Wilds. I haven’t stopped thinking about that game in some capacity since I played it and the second (part? Game? DLC?) about 6 months ago. I never looked up anything before or during play, but loved reading all about it after finishing them.

It bears repeating…Do not read/watch anything about this game online. The best way to experience it is through discovery and I wish I could wipe the experience from my memory just to experience it again!

    Other notable mentions are…

    • Dead Space for it’s integrated menus and systems that never take you out of the game.
    • Prey (the Indigenous People one) for the unique story.
    • Amnesia: The Dark Descent for the story, voice acting, and fear.

There are other games to mention, but my kid just came in and broke my train of thought.
