Not just no but Hell No.

There’s a looooong thread on mobileread forums about how to do this. Amazon changed their ebook format a year or two ago to make it harder to remove the DRM, but someone usually comes up with a new way to do it every time Amazon tries to foil them.

This is the thread I have bookmarked – I haven’t kept up with it all since I quit Kindle back when they removed the “download & transfer” option to let us save our own purchased property. But I think their newest format has been figured out now, so if it’s possible to do, the instructions should be in that thread.

OK dumb question but I don’t have a smartphone, so: You’re browsing the web on your phone and this pops up. It says “Use your phone’s camera app to scan this QR code”. So obviously a phone’s camera can’t scan its own screen. And if you switch to the camera app the QR code is no longer on the screen anyway. So how does your phone’s camera app read the QR code? Does it have a button to click and give you 5 seconds to go to the screen that’s showing the code or what?

Same! Except mine does do SMS text and has the other flip phone stuff like alarms, timer, calendar.

You could add a couple warehouses, maybe a dry dock where ships are built or repaired. I think your ships look pretty good, I can’t give you any advice on that, since I never build ships. :) Maybe a dock could extend out more and have a section at right angles to it where a ship could pull up alongside for loading/unloading cargo.

Maybe toward the water’s end on the left behind that one ship you could have a marina area for the small personal boats of the townspeople and/or house boats.

Oh yeah, good idea. Catching zombie villagers is probably easier than transporting villagers from elsewhere. And you get better prices.

Interesting, I don’t know how you would have gotten the experimental villager trading rebalance turned on by accident, that’s never happened to me.

But I thought there were still no naturally generated Swamp or Jungle villages, so you have to bring in villagers and make your own village there and breed them to get the swamp or jungle villagers. Did they add them later? Have you ever found any already existing villages in the swamp or jungle? That would be cool. And how do you like the new trading system compared to the old/normal way?

Well I would be one of those noobs, not having used signal or the like before. :) Camera app–are invites done via a QR code then? And we don’t use FB or any of that poison. I doubt I can get anyone to try it out anyway, but good to know about it just in case. Use case would be either an old no-sim phone or android tablet connecting to wifi or wifi hotspot, and/or a laptop/desktop from home.

That seems like a better idea, but it 's the same old problem where you’d have to get the people you want to communicate with to switch from Signal to that.

I don’t know how to get one and shouldn’t have to, just to use an app like Signal. Why isn’t there one we can use without having to give them a phone #?

tl;dw This is a great idea: Cory Doctorow explains how

1. all the countries the US trades with were forced, in their trade agreements with the US under threat of losing the US market, to pass their own digital copyright anti-circumvention laws so that US big tech companies can seek rent and collect the personal data of citizens of those countries with impunity, and

2. Now that trump has imposed all these tariffs on them and violated the agreements anyway, there is no longer any reason for them to to keep those laws on the books, laws which only hurt their own people and help US tech companies. He explains retaliatory tariffs only hurt their own people, that the best response is for other countries to stop protecting US oligarch and repeal those laws, which will help their own entrepreneurs and citizens, and withhold billions in rent to the US oligarchs.

And that’s just the first third of the video, but I stopped to post this before watching the rest. edit update: yeah the whole video is worth watching.

Same, I’ve tried lots of different things and have never found anything that works perfectly for maintaining conlang vocab. I’ve tried a spreadsheet and database but I find them too awkward to work with easily. So the best way I’ve found is just using a formatted text file with markup (emacs+org-mode which has its own markup syntax that I like, and a lot of useful functionality for working with it–like metadata, searching, and exporting).

I think a wiki is probably the best format to organize all the world building stuff, but you still have to figure out for yourself how you want to organize it all and do all the linking–that’s my weak point. (I know there’s some specialized world-building software out there but it seems to all be online subscription stuff which is definitely not for me).
