I kind of expect it. Not because of to much grows on the Linux side more because a lot of the desktop use cases are slowly dying and I think this will hit Windows harder than Linux based systems.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Can you use Linux today without the terminal?
4·3 months agoI agree. In my opinion Mint is one of the few distros that actually manage to make everything doable without the terminal.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Average Debian system update experience:
7·5 months agoIs Kali based on Debian Testing? Such issues can happen in the testing branch because sometimes only some of the dependencies from unstable get moved into it.
That’s why it’s strongly discouraged to use Testing.
I own the original PinePhone, and it’s nice to tinker with, but honestly it’s far too slow to be usable on a regular basis. Perhaps the PinePhone Pro is slightly better, but most likely still not good enough.
Couple that with the other issues described by @carzian@lemmy.ml , and it’s pretty clear why it failed.

Linux@lemmy.ml•I spent 2 hours coding this CSS theme (in nano btw) and I don't even know CSS, I color coded gtk3 ui for easy colors theming
7·1 year agoAwesome, love it xD
On that note: GTK has its issues but the idea/concept to just use CSS for theming is just great.

Linux@lemmy.ml•We don't need more Wayland Compositors
31·1 year agoWhile some of the arguments are true, this blog post mainly reads like an ad for hyperland and it propably is just that.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Do people use Autotools in new projects anymore?
3·1 year agoI don’t use autotools anymore for any of my private projects. It’s plain Makefiles for me simple and easy. But I usualy only target Linux.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Linus Torvalds and Richard Stallman
6·2 years agoThats the term Stallman came up with when the first distributions (esspecially Debian) started to build up. It wasnt really popular even back than so he setteled in GNU/Linux as alternative which to this day is in the name of quit a lot distributions.
It was never the plan/intend to rename the Linux kernel itsself to either of those terms.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Is it possible to use Linux without the command line?
9·2 years agoInterresting list, thanks.
Regarding the Firefox Wayland variable, it should be possible to add the line in ~/.profile instand. And that file can simple be opend by showing hidden files in the file manager of choice.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Linux Mint 22 Will Include Preinstalled App for Matrix
592·2 years agoI‘m not sure if I like this. I use Matrix for a couple of years now and to be honest the more I use it the more I hate it.
Everything just feels slow, clunky and some basic things are quite complicated to archive and some functionality just does not work.
All that was okay for me in the beginning but it never got better.IRC and XMPP also had their problems but I often wish them back nowadays.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Why do I have to agree with USA law when installing Fedora or openSUSE ?
264·2 years agoI guess it’s because US laws likes to pretend to be in force world wide … which they are not.
The first I tried was Ubuntu 10.10 but for reasons I don’t remember anymore I‘ve decided to rather install Linux Mint 10.
Used Mint for quit a while, then I had my distrohopping phase before finally setteling on plain Debian a couple of years back.
Looks very sketchy but I’m not to sure if it really is GIMP. It’s code is old and complex changing it to look like in the screenshot would be a big project on itself.
