While I agree that trying to file articles of impeachment at this point is not productive, it would have been the correct thing to do pre-2016.

They would actually be affected by these policies directly if they weren’t upper class, and I and other friends of theirs will absolutely be affected for a variety of reasons (public healthcare and anti-LGBTQ+ policies to name a few) and they still don’t seem to care. It feels like they’re so out of touch they don’t see the issue even though it will make a difference to the lives of the people around them. When you’re privileged, it can be difficult to see past the end of your own nose. (And I say that as someone with my own set of privileges.)
A friend of mine, who I consider quite progressive, has literally said similar things to your father. I think your post has actually shed some light on their behavior: they’re upper class (or their parents are). I was so confused after the 2024 election when they said everything would turn out all right in the end and it would all blow over, as if the changes the current regime is making haven’t set us back 50 years, as if people aren’t actively dying right now from Republican policies. Thank you for posting, I think it actually helped me understand why my friend said those things.

How scalable is this? Would the average recycle plant worker be able to do it themselves? Would each recycle plant be equipped with one of these ovens or would it require an overhaul of our recycling system?
I think the point is that they shove so much unreasonable stuff into a single bill that if Democrats want to pass any of it, they must capitulate to some of the Republicans’ wants. So a long period of negotiation will begin where Democrats will successfully get some of these additions removed, and an agreement is eventually reached where some of these poison pills will remain.
Unfortunately, Republicans would never agree to pass a bill without some of their additions in it, and most Democrats are not willing to dig in their heels and resist.

AI at Microsoft has not been optional for months. Someone I know has a job at Microsoft and has described it as hell. No human guidance or training, when asking questions of higher-ups they’re told to “ask Copilot”, Copilot is used for all internal documentation such as employee records and user tickets so when they need to find someone’s department or answer end-user questions they have to ask Copilot. They said it’s like having a full on conversation every time they need a small bit of information that a spreadsheet or database could accomplish much quicker.
